In a post-Challengers world, it was all but written that this year’s Majors circuit would prove to be a particularly high-octane show of tennis style, with the preppy meter dialed up to ten. And, for that matter, no one would be more locked in than the well-heeled fans attending Wimbledon, with its particularly prim dress code requiring tennis whites for players and suggesting suits and ties for attendees, which kicked off in London this month.
So far at the Wimbledon 2024 tournament, we’ve seen the usual suspects—David Beckham looking preternaturally (if characteristically) pristine in a flaxen Boss suit; Roger Federer with a very on-theme Rolex—as well as some surprise guests, like rocker Dave Grohl, who threw on some Dolce & Gabbana loafers (!) and tied his unruly salt-and-pepper hair into a bun to watch from the Royal Box, and UK rapper Central Cee, who bucked the formal dress code in his usual joggers while sporting a new chain featuring the iced-out visage of the late Queen Elizabeth II (!!).
And for a particular sector of people who have been very online for the last 15 years or so, actor Joe Alwyn and media personality Alexa Chung—who were, it should be noted, both attending as guests of Ralph Lauren—made alluring seatmates up in the VIP stands, he in his indigo-hued, summer-layered shirts and she in her nubby cable-knit cardigan.
