Anna Wintour continues to throw major curveballs at the helm of American Vogue. The editor who has been installed at the top job since 1988 gave us none other than Miuccia Prada as the magazine’s March 2024 cover star and astounds us all the same as Jill Biden is unveiled as Vogue‘s surprise and unexpected August 2024 cover star. Yet not completely unexpected, right? After all, the First Lady of the United States is essentially making a return to the fashion bible’s front cover, exactly three years after her last (as Wintour continues to show support toward President Joe Biden and his bid to be re-elected). Via the lens of photographer Norman Jean Roy, Dr. Jill Biden poses in the rather pensive and charming cover shot, styled by Max Ortega in a Ralph Lauren Collection dress and a pair of Irene Neuwirth earrings.
Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:
“Boring,” HodanChloe shrieked the moment the cover dropped.
“A photo with an outdoor background or in a room of The White House would have been better,” said forum member Ivanity86.
“One can only imagine what they were thinking, Jesus… put some effort into it,” voiced blueorchid.
Oaklee91 commented: “A bit somber for my taste!”
“Was this a last minute cover switch? Cause Vogue always have athletes on the cover for their Olympics issue,” noted Rigida.
“Not Anna giving Jill Biden a last minute cover. This is embarrassing on so many levels, even if the actual photo is just OK,” chimed in avonlea002.
Not everyone, however, was left so underwhelmed. “I like it, way better than the August 2021 cover at least. Overall, the cover is beautiful in its simplicity and Jill Biden has photographed beautifully. The coloring is lovely too, love all those beige tones and the cream Ralph Lauren. A thumbs up from me!” defended vogue28.
